the problem
The Treat is a Bahrain-born restaurant and café concept — more than meals, the experience matters. The brand and content needed to feel that way too.
A café competes for a decision that is made socially. People choose where to meet, and increasingly where to be seen meeting, which means the brand is judged in a photograph taken by a customer as often as in the room itself. Menus, walls, packaging and plating are all doing marketing work whether or not they were designed to.
strategy
Build a café brand people choose to be seen in. Warm, considered identity carried into menus, walls and a social feed that gets shared.
So the strategy was to make the experience photographable without making it performative. The distinction matters: a space designed only for the camera feels hollow to sit in, while a space designed with genuine warmth photographs well anyway. Every touchpoint had to earn its place in the room first and in the feed second.
execution
Brand identity, menu and print design, an always-on social content system, and food-photography art direction that gives every dish its moment.
Identity extended into menus and print, where most guests encounter the brand at length for the first time and where clarity matters as much as character. The social content system was built to be sustainable by the team rather than dependent on a monthly shoot, and food-photography direction established how dishes are lit, framed and styled so the feed stays recognisable regardless of who is holding the phone.
creative process
We art-directed the everyday objects. A menu is held for several minutes — longer than almost any other brand asset gets — so its typography, paper and structure carry disproportionate weight, and small details like how prices sit and how sections break do real work on how considered the place feels. Photography direction favoured natural light and honest plating over styled perfection, so the feed sets an expectation the kitchen can actually meet.
result
A café brand worth posting about — and worth coming back to. We grew the page from 400 to 9,000 organic followers.
lessons
In hospitality, the customer's own camera is the marketing channel. Design the objects people hold and the corners they photograph, and the feed largely takes care of itself.
